Recent polls have highlighted a new growing trend among the younger generations. Progressive ideologies like socialism, feminism, and environmentalism are gaining traction, with 51% of 18–24 year olds viewing socialism favourably, and even higher support for feminism at 61% and environmentalism at 63%. These figures underscore a growing rejection of the status quo and an embrace of transformative ideas in response to pressing societal challenges.
It should be of no surprise that these young people have begun to increasingly turn towards alternative solutions. Young people see housing, job insecurity, and climate degradation as symptoms of systemic inequality and understand that capitalism holds no solutions.
Socialists fight for better wages and a massive redistribution of wealth, feminists fight for gender equality, and environmentalists protest against climate polluting companies and for the planet for future generations. These aren’t separate causes but part of the same fight for a better future — a generational call for a complete overhaul of the current system.
But these ideas can only lead to change if they are paired with action. A better future won’t be handed to us – it must be organised and fought for. Be part of a growing movement which understands socialism is the only system that can protect the planet, as well as provide decent living standards for all. Join Socialist Alternative and help turn these ideas into reality. Together, we can create a future for the benefit of everyone, rather than the 1%.
