The Tories are out, but Starmer has shown he is fundamentally no different. From keeping children in poverty, backing the genocidal war in Gaza to cutting the winter fuel allowance, he has shown he is on the side of the capitalist establishment.
This is why we need to continue building the resistance to war, transphobia, climate destruction and the cost of living crisis. REVOLUTIONARY IDEAS is a one-day socialist festival of discussion and debate, organised by Socialist Alternative in Liverpool.
Below is a list of some of our key sessions. If you’re interested, why not come along?
Slaughter in Gaza continues: Socialist struggle against war & imperialism

Our international rally will hear from socialists around the world, speaking on the fight to end the massacre in Gaza, along with the crisis-ridden capitalist system.
SPEAKERS INCLUDE
Jonas Brännberg: Activist with Socialistiskt Alternativ in Luleå, Sweden
Monja: Anti-fascist activist from Germany and member of Sozialistische Alternative
How do socialists combat the far right?

From Britain to the US, from France to Germany and beyond, the racist right wing is on the rise. This session will discuss crucial questions like:
- Why is this happening now?
- Can we rely on the political establishment to stop the far right in their tracks?
- Why is the fight for socialism so important in stopping these forces?
What kind of new left party do we need?

Join our special guest speakers for a panel discussion on what kind of new left party we need.
How can it come about? What should it look like? What about the Green Party? And what kinds of policies should it fight for?
SPEAKERS INCLUDE
- Alan Gibbons: Liverpool Community Independent councillor for Orrell Park
- Tanisha Bramwell: Independent councillor for Dewsbury West and anti-poverty campaigner
- Claire Laker-Mansfield: Socialist Alternative National Spokesperson

Marxist philosophy: Introducing dialectical materialism

Dialectical materialism is the modern philosophy of Marxism. Don’t be put off if that sounds too difficult!
This session will go through the ABCs of this method of understanding the world. It will cover the basic laws of dialectics, explaining in an introductory way how this is a philosophy of constant change, development and contradiction, which we can use to understand the rapidly changing world around us today.
How would a socialist economy work?

Socialists stand for a fundamentally different type of society.
Rather than the endless chaos, greed, wars and poverty created by capitalism, the enormous wealth of society is instead used to benefit the majority.
Come along to this session to find answers to questions like:
- What are some common misunderstanding of socialism?
- What went wrong in the Soviet Union? Was that socialism?
- Is socialism possible?
